Eddie Murphy````s choice of Film projects comes under scrutiny yet again with the release of I Spy, a comedy flick that , in the best of moods, can only be described as average. This Betty Thomas directed flick is saved only by the fact that Murphy is in the cast and even then, his constant efforts to infuse sense and humour into this flick ends up in black- comdey-overkill.

Alex Scott (Owen Wilson) is a second grade spy working for the Bureau of National Security. He is infatuated by fellow agent Rachel (Famke Janssen) and extrememly jealous of top agent Carlos. In this story comes an odd twist in the form of Kelly Robinson (Eddie Murphy) a champion boxer who is called upon by the President to help out in a special task and aid Alex in his efforts to recover a stealth fighter that can turn invisible. They both reluctantly go to Budapest where a fight is about to take place between Kelly and his nemesis. The dou then become invaulable to each other in the pursuit of the stolen aircraft but when things go wrong and Rachel seems to be dead, they both end up turning on each other, but save each others```` lives. Unfortunately, they destroy the plane in the process but save the day anyway.

I Spy````s funniest moments are provided by Eddie and his constant rants and jive talking. The story is very mediocre and uninspiring. Owen Wilson plays a decent second fiddle especially when he puts Eddie````s character in place every now and then. Action scenes are nothing great to talk about and somehow this looks like a very low budget flick. A movie that ought to be given a miss unless there is nothing else to do this weekend.
