By Ad-Lib Ice Age is finally here after all the hype in the States. After toppling Monsters, Inc there, one would expect this to be a really good animated flick but technically it is inferior. Storywise, Ice Age is just average. This is a movie purely for the kids but should leave adults delightfully entertained all the same. The time is early Earth and Sid the Sloth (Voice of John Leguizamo ) wakes up too late to join his family for the migration to the warmer South. He manages to infuriate two rhinos but gets saved by Manfred the Mammoth (Voice of Ray Romano ) and thinks he``s found a new friend in "Manny" but Manny can``t stand the sight of the sloth. That``s when they are given a human baby by a woman, whose village was attacked by sabre toothed tigers as revenge for the decimation of their fellow tigers. According to Soto, the head tiger, a befitting revenge was supposed to be the killing of the baby but since it got away, he sends Diego (Voice of Denis Leary ) to recover the child. Diego comes into contact with the odd duo and tells them he can help them get the baby back to his father. They try to make it to a pass which humans use to reach their settlement beyond the mountains. It is the misadventures that they face there and the test of loyalty that Diego must face that makes up the rest of the movie, which is filled with laughter and a happy ending. Of the lot, Ray Romano stands out because it is his typical style in action here, albeit a little more forceful than the character of Ray Barone. But the character that stands out the most is Sid, a whinny Sloth. He``s hilarious and lovable. Then there is the unfortunate primeval rodent that is trying to lay its hands on an acorn. Ice Age is definitely a movie for the kids and without a doubt they will really enjoy it. For adults, it may be a bit tiresome as the story is tried, tested and overused Disney fare. Ice Age is Entertainment for those who don``t want to be bothered by complicated storylines. |
