‘Sramanakam’ saw all the artistes do a perfect job.

Fulfilling its objective of getting one full or two short plays staged every first Friday, VMDA featured Sramanakam, a historical play on Buddhism last week. Based on the novel by Nandamuri Lakshmi Parvathi it was directed by Vijay abhaskar.

The play began with Buddha condemning the yagnas and sacrifices of animals by King Bimbisara of Magadha for the well being of his people.

The play saw all the actors and those working behind it do a perfect job. Y.K. Nageswara Rao (also in-charge of the production) as Buddha, Y.V.S.S. Patro as Mahanaidu, D.V.R. Sastry as Yagnasarma, B.V. Raghavaiah as Nanda, S. Ramarao as Bimbisara, D. Tirumaleswara Rao, P.V. Rao, G.M. Rao and K.K. Sarma in other roles proved to be engaging enough.

Doyen of drama Chatla Sriramulu, who played Suddhodhana attracted everybody’s attention. Vijayalakshmi as Sundari, Indira as Gouthami, Prabhavathi as Yasodhara, K.R.K. Murty as Kootadantha and Lakshminarayana as Devadatta were the others who deserve special mention.
