Lara Croft: Tombraider belongs to that category of films that have been taken out of computer screens and thrown onto the big screen. But unlike films like Mortal Kombat which were specifically designed to give the viewer an adrenalin rush, Tombraider is an absolute failure at giving the viewer any kind of experience whatsoever.
Lady Lara Croft (Angelina Jolie) is a very wealthy British aristocrat who is a Tombraider by trade. However she is grappling with the death of her archaeologist father(John Voight) who went missing at a dig. But Lady Croft is no ordinary woman. She is an absolute expert at martial arts, practices on robots developed by her sidekick Bryce (Noah Taylor) and looks extremely attractive in hot pants. Croft is awakened one night by a dream that leads her to find an artifact that is a key to unlocking two parts of a triangle that was forged out of a meteorite. This triangle gives the owner the power to move back and forth in time.
And this discovery happens to coincide with a planetary alignment that happens once every 5,000 years. An underground group wishes to fulfill an ancient prophecy that they would rejoin the two pieces of the triangle, which was separated to stop man from ever using its powers for evil. The man sent to do the job is Manfred Powell (Iain Glen) who seeks out Croft and steals the artifact to unlock the first half of the triangle. One part of the artifact being in the Cambodian jungles and the other in Iceland, the movie follows a short path to the eventual joining of the two halves and re-destruction of it yet again.
There is nothing to really call good about the movie except Angelina`s portrayal of a James Bond like character. The movie being based on a video game, characters other than the lead dont shine out. Special effects are superb and Angelina actually seems very apt for the role of Lara Croft. The movie seems to rush through everything and you will be left very confused. This is actually a movie that teenagers will enjoy, especially since the duration of the movie is just about a few lectures worth.
