By Ad-Lib Bad Company is one of the more forgettable movies from the director of movies like Batman Forever and 8MM, Joel Schumacher. It stars the odd combination of Chris Rock and Anthony Hopkins who try to save America from nuclear annihilation. In a mission in the Czech Republic, CIA operative Gaylord Oakes (Anthony Hopkins) loses one of his prime agents Kevin Pope (Chris Rock) and has nine days to rectify the situation or lose a chance to get codes to a nuclear bomb. By some stroke of luck they find out that the Pope had a twin who now lives in Jersey. They find his twin, Jake Hayes, a fast talking black marketer. They convince Jake to take up the job of standing in for his brother and setup the sale of the bomb. Jake is trained and sent to the Czech republic but not before some mediocre comic moments during training and also a few close shaves with death after a terrorist group, that wants to blow up America, decide to make him a target. Oakes and Jake finally get to the exchange point but that is when the terrorists get the bomb from them. They kidnap Jake`s girlfriend in America and make him give them the activation codes. But the CIA and Jake eventually thwart their plan of blowing up Grand Central Station and finally all is well. Bad Company is touted as an action movie but hardly has any interesting or nail biting scenes. Another problem is that Anthony Hopkins and Chris Rock gel like oil and water. Though one would expect a load of comical scenes between the duo, the pairing of a class actor with a second grade comedian has turned out to be a washout. Somehow the concept of a previously unknown twin coming to the CIA`s rescue is too “Bollywood” to digest as well! Direction can be labeled sloppy at best considering that this is the man who directed two Batman movies and The Client. But Bad Company will at least keep you awake with its changing plot. Otherwise, it is best skipped!
