Leonardo DiCaprio, Tom Hanks

It’s heartwarming to watch the boyish-looking DiCaprio play his age. He is a teenager, a con man at that, and the FBI is hot on its heels to nab him. It’s the true story of Frank Abagnale Jr made for the big screen by master storyteller Steven Spielberg.

Dicaprio is the Frank Abagnale, an airline pilot, a lawyer, and a doctor at 19. Family problems and financial dire straits push him into the con world where he impersonates a doc, an attorney, a pilot, even a school teacher. However, he also forges big monies and gets deeper into the world of crime.

As Frank goes about his job of making a living as a conman, elsewhere in the FBI agent Carl Hanratty (Tom Hanks) is after Frank’s life. The movie is essentially the chase that Carl gives Frank.

It isn’t a comedy but it``s not nearly dramatic enough to be taken seriously. That it’s a true story, ok a dramatized one, that we’re watching makes it all the more appealing. DiCaprio is the star of the show. Needless to say Hanks, is as always, first rate.

The highlight of the flick is, however, those bits where you get to see how Frank goes about preparing impersonations, the groundwork the goes into it etc. Spielberg maintains the pace throughout to give us a cracker of a movie. Catch it if you can!
